First responders were doing ice rescue training in Brooklyn Saturday when they got a call from a woman who said she was in trouble at Smiley’s Provincial Park, then the phone went dead.
They jumped in their trucks and headed out right away finding the woman had gone through the ice on the Meander River while trying to rescue her dogs which had gone in the water. She managed to get to shore but she couldn’t walk. She was treated for minor hypothermia and taken to Hants Community Hospital.
Rescue workers are warning people about the dangers of going out on the ice especially in light of the warm weather we’ve had recently.
