Canada’s broadcast regulator has declared broadband Internet access a basic service nationwide, like telephones. C-R-T-C Commissioner Jean-Pierre Blais said all Canadians should have high-speed Internet service within 10 to 15 years, but it will be very costly…possibly $10 billion.
Blais acknowledged it’s an ambitious and costly target that will require a co-ordinated effort by business and government. But he said connecting all Canadians is vital to Canada’s economy in the 21st century.
