A well-known Cape Breton priest, community activist and educator known simply as Father Greg, has passed away at the age of 81.
Father Greg MacLeod died yesterday after a lengthy illness, was ordained to the priesthood in 1961. He taught at the College of Cape Breton startying in the ’70s. Then he was one of the founders of New Dawn Enterprises and the BCA Group.
Chief Terry Paul of the Membertou First Nation told the CBC Father Greg was a mentor to him and will be missed, saying his heart and soul was for Cape Breton.
A longtime politician with many stripes has passed away.
Former MLA Paul MacEwan had been in palliative care in Sydney and died Tuesday.
MacEwan served for 33 years in the legislature first as a New Democrat then as founder of the Cape Breton Labour Party, an independant and finally a Liberal.
