This year’s Christmas tree for Boston was cut down yesterday in Ainslie Glen.
The tree is the first from Cape Breton to be sent to Boston in thanks for its help after the 1917 Halifax Explosion. The sendoff is this morning at the Grand Parade.
This year the tree will already have some decorations on it. Principal John Bernard, of the elementary school in Whycocomagh, says his grade 3 students have been studying the Halifax explosion in Social Studies and they decided to send 24 glass balls along with the tree which have their cultural symbols painted on them.
