CBU talks

Cape Breton University and the Faculty Association sit down at the bargaining table again today trying to avoid a strike.

The Faculty is in a legal a strike position and has said it will give 48 hours strike notice Saturday if there’s no progress in these talks.  The main item in dispute is the layoff clause.

Cape Breton prom plans

Some proms will go ahead despite the work to rule by teachers. A couple of businesses have gotten together  to make sure proms are held at 4 high schools.

DJ Majestic and Timeless, a formalwear shop, are looking for volunteers to help put on the proms for Glace Bay, Riverview, Sydney Academy and Memorial High.

Brittany Woodworth, who owns Timeless, told the CBC hopefully the work-to-rule will be settled before prom dates, but they want an alternative to be ready.  The Bayplex, Centre 200 and Emera Centre are saving dates for the proms.
