CBU and Faculty Avoid Strike Action

Cape Breton University and its Faculty Association have announced significant progress in contract negotiations. That progress includes an agreement in principle on the Article 39 layoff clause which up until now has been a sticking point. As a result of the breakthrough in negotiations the faculty association has put off filing notice to strike. The two sides are expected to continue talks this week.

Money for Second Sydney Cruise Ship Berth Expected this Week

The port of Sydney is expected to announce more money for a second cruise ship berth as early as tomorrow. Sources tell the Cape Breton Post the announcement is expected Monday or Tuesday. CBRM already committed to its one-third share of the $20 million cost in it’s last budget and is expected to announce a committment this week from other levels of government.
