Trade deals

A key advisor to the new President tried to assure our federal cabinet Canada doesn’t need to be enormously worried about Donald Trump’s trade policies.

Stephen Schwarzman spoke to the Prime Minister and his cabinet at their retreat in Calgary saying Canada is well-regarded by the president and in a good position in any renegotiation of NAFTA.

He said Trump is more concerned with agreements involving big trade imbalances which is not the case with Canada.

Wrongful death

A Calgary woman, whose son died from a strep infection, has been found guilty of criminal negligence for treating him with herbal remedies; dandelion tea and oil of oregano.

Ryan Lovett died in 2013 at the age of 7.

The judge says Tamara Lovett gambled away his life by making a deliberate choice not to seek medical care.

She remains free on bail until a sentencing hearing in June.
