NS Acadian decision

Nova Scotia’s French-speaking population has won a major court battle over the makeup of electoral districts.

The government will be appointing an independent commission to redraw boundaries to provide the Acadian minority with better representation in the legislature.

The previous NDP government redrew three predominantly Acadian ridings to include more English speakers.

NS teachers update

Teachers got their first look at the tentative contract worked out last week, and the CBC reports the response has been lukewarm at best.

It’s worth an extra $60 million over four years, and the union executive is telling members it was the best deal available.

Teachers have voted against two previous tentative contracts recommendated by the executive.

The vote on this one will be February 8th.
