Inverness drug busts

Inverness RCMP were busy recently with four drug busts in less than a week.

Several people have been charged after the arrests including two men charged after a traffic stop on Embree Island Road found drugs in the car.  They searched a home on Marble Mountain Road seizing marijuana and cash and charging a 24 year old man.   Another man is facing drug charges after he was stopped initially for using a cellphone while driving.  Another traffic stop on Reeves Street led Mounties to coke, oxycodone and marijuana charges against two men, with a third pending.

Cape Breton projects

The McNeil Government released its capital spending plans yesterday with over $217 million designated for road contruction. There’s almost $100 million for schools and other buildings.

The projects don’t include money for any further highway twinning of highways on Cape Breton, but they are considering some major work.  That includes the Port Hawkesbury by-pass and making Highway 4 a controlled access highway all the way from Sydney to St. Peter’s.

Bruce Fitzner in the Transportation Department says traffic volumes don’t warrant twinned highways yet, but making the number 4 a controlled a access highway is being contemplated.
