A campaign has been launched to support hiring locals before temporary foreign workers. The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1852 are behind it, wanting Cape Breton employers to consider everyone here who’s looking for work. Foreign workers at the Donkin Mine were brought up, although part of the campaign is ensuring those workers are protected too.

Glace Bay sentence
A Glace Bay man has been sentenced on multiple charges. 39-year-old Thomas Gerard Rogers admitted to breaching court orders, theft and possession of a dangerous weapon and stolen property. A joint recommendation gave him time served after eight months on remand, a day in jail served by being in court for sentencing and a year’s probation.
