The Trudeau government is prepared to retaliate against a tax on cross-border trade with the U-S.

As she ended a two-day trip to Washington, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said she told politicians that Canada would strongly oppose new tariffs, and respond in kind if anything happened.

Britain’s House of Commons has given final approval to a bill authorizing the start of Brexit.

The 494-to-122 vote has sent the bill to the House of Lords, which has the power to delay — but not derail — it.

The vote comes despite fears by opposition lawmakers that the U-K is setting out the path to leaving the European Union with a sketchy roadmap.
