Funding from Ottawa will help turn a century old bank building in downtown Sydney into a museum. The Bank of Montreal building was constructed in 1899 but the bank relocated last year, leaving the historic building vacant. An Association called the Old Sydney Society stepped in to purchase the building for a dollar in an attempt to save the landmark and turn it into a Museum. On Friday the federal government committed 175-thousand dollars towards the 350-thousand-dollar estimated cost of renovating the building. The society hopes to cover the rest of the cost through provincial funding and a fundraising campaign.
