Atlantic premiers meeting

The need to promote and strengthen trade ties with the U-S dominated a two-day meeting of the Council of Atlantic premiers in Corner Brook.

Stephen McNeil remained in Halifax and sent health Minister Leo Glavine in his stead.

The premieras said they must sell Atlantic Canada’s interests with the U-S, especially when it comes to softwood lumber.  They are also working to bring down health costs and plan a review of public drug plan coverage seeking service improvements, cost containment; and more help for high-cost therapies for rare diseases.

NS drug bust

The RCMP stopped to help a car that had slid off the highway into a ditch on the weekend, although the occupants wish they hadn’t.

Officers who stopped to help in Kemptown spotted suspicious packages which turned out to be 6.8 kilograms of cocaine.

They also say the driver’s license was suspended and both the man and woman from Moncton, in their thirties; had outstabnding warrants.

So they are cooling their heels in the lockup now.
