CBRM water rates

Your water bills could be going up this fall, according to CBC.

CBRM wants to increase the water utility bills because it isn’t making enough money now to pay expenses.  It’ll be increasing the average bill by $5 a month, meaning the first increase on the quarterly bill will be $15.  Then there will be another $3 per quarter next year and an additional $4 the year after.

The increases have to be approved by the Utility and Review Board which will hold public hearings on it.

Highway 104 comments

The new Mayor of Port Hawkesbury doesn’t want tolls on the 7 kilometre stretch of Highway 104 from Port Hawkesbury to Port Hastings.

Brenda Chisholm-Beaton told the Cape Breton Post twinning that stretch of highway is unsustainable and unnecessary.  It would by-pass the town entirely which would hurt local businesses.  She says the town is working on its own plan to improve the main thoroughfare.
