New Waterford project

Premier Stephen McNeil brought his checkbook to CBRM yesterday.

He announced a long-awaited community health centre will be built in New Waterford.  It will have a collaborative-care team as well as other health and community services.  Sister Margie Gillis told the CBC it’s more than just a medical clinic because it will also address many community issues that contribute to diseases such as addictions, mental health; and poverty issues.

Glace Bay Hospital announcement

Premier McNeil was also at the Glace Bay Hospital to announce plans for a dialysis unit.

That way they won’t have to go to Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney several times a week.

Premier McNeil said design work will take about 8 months for the six station dialysis unit and they won’t have a cost for the project until that’s done.
