CBRM population

People continue to leave the Island.

CBRM Council was told last night the population of Cape Breton County has dropped below 100,000 for the first time since the great depression.

Planning director Malcolm Gillis told council this requires immediate action to bring people back. He says the 2016 census shows the population of the county including CBRM, Membertou and Eskasoni First Nations, dropped by 2.9%… 98,722 people.  The decrease was even more prevelant in Sydney, Glace bay, North Sydney and New Waterford.

Sydney Forks dispute

The hearing by the Nova Scotia Police Review Board wrapped up yesterday into a complaint by Stephanie Bonner and Edward Ted O’Quinn.

They said they were threatened by Constable John Campbell in a property dispute with his aunt over a shared driveway in Sydney Forks.

The panel reserved decision and set dates for the lawyers to provide written submissions.
