Eskasoni murder sentence

An Eskasoni man will learn next week how long he’ll have to be in prison before he can get parole.

A sentencing hearing was held yesterday for 37 year old Albert Michael Bernard.  He was convicted of second degree murder in November in the death of Dale Frank Dennis on July 4, 2015, in Eskasoni.

Victim impact statements were presented in court yesterday and the judge reserved decision until the 16th on how long Bernard will have to serve of his life sentence, anywhere from 10 to 25 years; before he’s eligible for parole.

Cabot Trail status

It’ll be a few weeks before a washed out road off the Cabot Trail can reopen.

The Transporation Department says the heavy rains caused flooding and a washout on Middle River West Road  and new culverts will have to be installed.  80 year round homes, 40 cottages and three businesses are affected.

Also, a section of shoulder on the Cabot Trail itself washed away Monday 20km northwest of Baddeck, but one has been reopened.
