A Sydney man charged in a fatal March hit-and-run has been remanded until later this week. 26-year-old Thomas Joseph Smith is accused in the death of Jackie Deveau of Cheticamp, who was hit near the Mira Road exit. Smith faces failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving and criminal negligence causing death, and driving while disqualified. He has a bail hearing on Thursday.

A late-night fire in Sydney has displaced six. A Bentinck Street apartment building went ablaze around 11:00; it was contained to one unit but smoke got into others. No one was hurt, and the Red Cross is helping four tenants. Two made their own accommodations.
