One of the worst coal mining disasters in Cape Breton history will be commemorated in New Waterford this evening with a concert by the Men of the Deeps and a children’s lantern parade.
They will mark the 100th anniversary of the No. 12 Mine explosion which killed 65 men. 25 other miners were rescued. The ceremony will be held at 6:30 at Colliery Lands Park.
Police are investigating after a truck ended up in the water off Mira Bay Road Sunday night.
The initial call was from a man that someone had taken his pickup without permikssion. They got there and stopped the vehicle but the the driver took off. A shiort time later they found the truck in the water. The driver had fled. No word on whether they have located him yet.
