Canadian troops in Iraq

The head of the military’s special forces says his troops aren’t involved in what he calls offensive combat operations in Iraq, but Major-General Mike Rouleau admits there’s been a substantial increase in the number of times Canadian troops have fired on terrorists.

He told reporters our troops have destroyed three explosive-laden vehicles that were threatening Kurdish allies.

His comments came after questions by opposition politicians about just what Canada’s role in the war against ISIS is.

“Flippin’ ‘the bird'” to the loon

We could soon have a national bird, and it’s not the loon.

The Royal Canadian Geographic Society has chosen the Gray Jay, or Whiskey Jack; as Canada’s national bird.

It’s found in every province and territory, but; only in Canada.

The society says the Whiskey Jack embodies Canada’s best qualities:  toughness, intelligence; and a friendly demeanour.
