Canada’s chief public health officer is putting the brakes on calls for an emergency declaration in response to the opioid crisis.
Doctor Gregory Taylor says a public health emergency is an option of last resort, and has never been enacted in the country.
That hasn’t stopped experts at a summit in Ottawa from urging the government to do so.
A House of Commons committee made a similar recommendation in an interim report tabled Friday.
