Toronto pastor trial in Kentville, NS

The judge at the indecent assault trial of Pastor Brent Hawkes will hear closing arguments today.

Yesterday, the judge refused to hear rebuttal witnesses the crown wanted to call about Hawkes offering students alcohol at his trailer in Greenwood.

In his testimony, Hawkes denied giving students alcohol at his place because he didn’t want them driving drunk.

Cape Sharp tidal project

Cape Sharp Tidal’s turbine is now turning in the Minas Passage, and is the first to be plugged into the provincial power grid.

The province called it a “tidal energy milestone,” with the turbine producing two megawatts, enough energy to power 500 homes.

There was also a protest against the project outside the gates.

About 20 people including fishermen, Mi’Kmaq and scientists blocked one side of the road leading to FORCE so the dignataries attending the event had to pass and see them and their signs.

RCMP were called in but didn’t ask them to disband or leave.
