Sydney flood repairs

Repairs continue to the damaged roads around CBRM caused by the Thanksgiving Day flood, and the costs continue to pile up.

The Cape Breton Post reports provincial infrastructure costs are expected to top $5 million once all the damaged culverts and supports are replaced.  Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan says the critical areas under provincial jurisdiction were in rural areas including Hornes Road, MacKeigan Road; and Brickyard Road.

Concerns about Halifax’s homicide rate

A report from Stats Can says Halifax’s homicide rate was the ninth highest among Canadian cities last year, higher than Toronto; Montreal, and Vancouver.

There were 8 homicides in the city giving a rate of 1.91 per 100,000 people.

There have been 12 homicides so far this year.
