Sydney Port concerns

Some councillors are expressing concern that they’re being rushed into votes on background deals involving port development.

Councillor Earlene MacMullin told the Local Xpress she isn’t sure she’s been given enough information to make a decision yesterday afternoon.  She and other councillors only heard about the deal to sign an operator for the port by reading the Local Xpress’s interview with Mayor Cecil Clarke Tuesday and that they’d have to vote on its this afternoon.

NSGEU labour pains

More labour trouble for the McNeil Government.

NSGEU President Jason MacLean says a tentative contract, reached over a year ago; has now been rejected by 94% of the local members.

MacLean is urging the government to return to the bargaining table, saying that deal was reached under duress because the government was threatening to legislate a contract.

Finance Minister Randy Delorey says the offer was fair and was based on what the province can afford.
