More problems for Thomas Ted Barrett.

The Glace Bay man has lost his latest lawyer, Michelle James, after less than a month, according to CBC.  The Barrister’s Society declared there was a conflict of interest because another lawyer in James’ firm represented Barrett’s co-accused Morgan McNeil who pleaded guilty last September to manslaughter in the death of Laura Jessome in 2012.

Barrett’s three-week trial is still set to begin May 1st, but now he has to find another lawyer.

The husband of Immigration Minister Lena Diab has been charged with assaulting her.

Maroun Dian was in court yesterday on various charges including assault and uttering threats.

His wife was listed as one of three victims in the incident New Year’s Eve in the couple’s Halifax home.

Lena Diab and the Premier’s office are not commenting, saying it’s a private matter.
