NB fire fighters headed to BC

The province is sending fire fighting help to British Columbia.

The Department of Energy and Resource Development is sending 23 people from around the province to help fight the wildfires raging there.

The government typically hires students for the summer to work on fighting forest fires in New Brunswick. They train them and ensure they pass physical-fitness tests. Those are the ones who’ll be going along with a crew chief and other support staff. They’re not part of local fire departments.

BC wildfires

Wildfires continue to roar through British Columbia.

7,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes in the central interior with no relief in sight…no significant rain in the forecast and conditions will worsen with more evacuations possible.

The BC Government, which declared a province-wide tate of emergency, is pledging hundreds of millions of dollars in relief with residents able to access $600 immediately to help cover expenses.
