Mounties injured arresting man

Two RCMP officers were injured Friday night trying to arrest a man.

The Times and Transcript reports they got a call to a restaurant about a man with a knife. The man was asking for help and did not appear to be trying to rob the place. The two officers were injured trying to arrest the man. They were treated and released from hospital. The suspect also received received minor injuries. Police say he may have been suffering from a pre-existing mental health condition and remains in hospital.

Former deputy justice minister under cloud

A former Deputy Minister of Justice has been accused of stealing more than $740,000 from clients of his private law practice.

The Law Society of New Brunswick alleges Yassin Choukri misappropriated funds from 10 clients between 2010 and 2016. Choukri was once a law partner in former premier Bernard Lord’s law firm and served as Deputy Justice Minister during Lord’s time in office between 2003 and 2006.
