Rescuing whales is a dangerous business…and a whale rescuer has died in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Details are still scarce but CBC reports Joe Howlett, of Campobello Island, was killed yesterday while trying to rescue a whale in the Gulf. DFO has only confirmed there was a death aboard one of its vessels.
The former chief medical officer of health for New Brunswick was paid $720,000 in severance by the government, according to CBC.
Dr. Eilish Cleary was fired in 2015, prompting demonstrations and calls for her reinstatement. CBC reports Cleary, who had held the position since 2008, says the termination notice said her skill set didn’t meet the needs of her employer.
