Bridgewater police chief charged

The head of SIRT Ron MacDonald says he’s seen a number of officers investigated, but this was the first time he’s seen a police chief charged with sexually assaulting a teenaged girl.

SIRT laid one charge of sexual assault and two charges of sexual exploitation against Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, police Chief John Collyer. The girl was 17 years old at the time of the alleged offences last year. Charges were laid this week because of recent documentary evidence received last week.

Collyer was placed on administrative leave last August after it became public that SIRT was investigating an alleged sexual assault. He’ll be in court next month.

Visas and social media

The U-S State Department is asking the Trump administration for permission to review social media, email addresses and phone numbers from some foreigners seeking U-S visas.

The proposed requirements would apply to people seeking visas who have been to areas controlled by terrorist organizations. They would have to supply information on their visa application about their social media handles and platforms, phone numbers and email addresses from the past five years, as well as 15 years of work and travel history.
