Residents pan Parlee plan

Area residents are panning the province’s plans to curb pollution at Parleee Beach.

They want a moratorium on future development until the polluttion problems are solved. Pointe-du-Chene resident Arthur Melanson told CBC the announcement Wednesday that the provincial and federal governments will spend up to $3 million on Parlee Beach infrastructure and studies doesn’t go far enough. He called it just a bandaid on the wound.

New rules for Energy East

Provincial Conservatives think the Energy East Pipeline is in trouble after the release of the new parameters by the National Energy Board panel yesterday.  It said it would be considering greenhouse gas emissions at both ends of the pipeline as part of its review.

The Gallant Government says that’s not surprising. Conservative Energy critic Glen Savoie told Brunswick News the changes amount to moving the goal posts and may put Energy East out of reach.

The Conservation Council of New Brunswick doesn’t believe it’s the final nail in the coffin.
