Parking restrictions eased in entertainment district

Common Council is moving to ease overnight parking restrictions uptown…at least during the summer.

The amendment will allow for overnight parking in the uptown entertainment district on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from May to October. The restrictions would remain in place during the winter because of snow removal.

Ian MacKinnon, head of the Parking and Transit Commission, admits it’ll mean a loss of revenue from parking tickets but doesn’t think it will have a large impact.

Big birthday party tomorrow

The City of Saint John is getting ready for a big birthday party tomorrow….the city’s 232nd.

At 10:00am, the Market Square Saint Mary’s Band will provide music, and DeLancey’s Brigade war re-enactors will showcase a soldier’s life in the 18th century America. There’ll be a big birthday cake. Then at noon, the guns of the 3rd Field Artillery Regiment (The Loyal Company) will fire their customary 21 gun salute. Then there’ll be fireworks over the harbour at 9:30pm. The New Brunswick Museum will be free all day.
