Report on deadly fishing accident due this week

The Transportation Safety Board will release the results this week of its investigation into the fatal capsizing of a fishing vessel off the Acadian Peninsula last year.

Two fishermen died and another man was taken to hospital after a fishing boat capsized last June off a wharf near Salmon Beach, about 10 kilometres from downtown Bathurst. RCMP said it appeared fishing gear was snared at the bottom of the bay and a wave overturned the boat.

Climate change partly to blame for whale deaths?

DFO says climate change is partly to blame for the increase in Right Whale deaths in the Gulf of St. Lawrence this summer.

Scientists say more hungry Right Whales are moving into the Gulf following the food instead of hanging around their usual feeding grounds in the Bay of Fundy where privisions have been in place to protect them. In the Gulf, there have been more collissions with ships and encounters with fishing gear.
