Saint Johner appointed to head CAA

A Saint John man has been appointed national Chairman of the Canadian Automobile Association.

The Telegraph-Journal reports Dale Knox took over the position of chairman of the board at the annual general meeting in St. John’s and told the gathering he is proud to be involved with CAA as it is an exciting time for the organization. Knox said pressing issues on the radar include advocacy surrounding marijuana legislation and its affect on drivers, as well as consultations with Ottawa on the pending air passengers bill of rights.

Defence review due today

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan will release the much-anticipated defence policy review today.

Sajjan is expected to make a case for billions of dollars in new spending on the military.

Yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland called for a big boost in military spending in a major foreign policy speech in the Commons. She said in a world, where allies can’t necessarily rely on an inward-looking U-S, there is a need for Canadian diplomacy and development sometimes to be backed by a principled use of force.
