“Atlantic Link” to New England proposed

A proposed submarine power cable from Coleson Cove to Plymouth, Massachusetts, is being touted as the best option to provide the state with clean electricity…and benefit New Brunswick as well.

Nova-Scotia based Emera outlined details of the plan yesterday at an energy conference in Saint John. The project called Atlantic Link would have a capacity of about one-thousand megawatts, with the majority of the power coming from wind in New Brunswick and hydro from other facilities. The 560 kilometre cable would cost about $2 billion just for the transmission line alone. Emera is asking NB Power to consider becoming a minor equity partner.

Impaired driving sentence

An Anagance man is going to jail for a New Year’s Day accident in 2015 that sent two people to hospital, according to the Telegraph-Journal.

32 year old David Allan McMackin was convicted on two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and leaving the scene of an accident…but not guilty of impaired driving. Yesterday, the judge sentenced him to 90 days in jail and a year’s probation.

A Sussex couple was injured when McMackin hit their car on Route 1 in Anagance.
