New family doctor program

The Gallant Government says a new model for family medicine has been established to provide patients with better access to family physicians.

Health Minister Victor Boudreau says the province has partnered with the Medical Society to bring out the new model called Family Medicine New Brunswick.

It features a team-based approach. Doctors will have their own patients but will also provide service to patients of other doctors on their team. There would be more access for patients in the evenings and on weekends. Non-emergencies could also be answered over the phone or through emails.

Medical Society on marijuanna

The Medical Society also has a number of suggestions on the legalization of marijuanna.

It has recommended a minimum age of at least 21…and would prefer 25 because of marijuanna’s affects on growing brains. It realizes 25 however is not realistic….and but is also suggesting raising the legal age for tobacco to 21. The Medical Society also recommends no profit targets be set if the government chooses to sell grass in liquor stores.
