Whale rescued

The Marine Animal Response Society rescued a young beluga whale from the Nepisiquit River up north and transferred it to the St. Lawrence near Quebec.

The endangered whale travelled by air, land and sea to be reunited with his pod…and he’s now eqipped with a tracking device so scientists can watch his travel patterns.

The population of St. Lawrence beluga whales has been delcining for years and now numbers fewer than 900.

Noisy ships

A new report says DFO employees in the Maritimes were not warned for seven months about a serious noise hazard that could cause hearing loss. The problem was on board four of the department’s vessels.

Public Sector Integrity Commissioner Joe Friday tabled a report in Parliament outlining the results of the investigation of wrongdoing launched after a whistleblower came forward. The commissioner’s report didn’t define the precise source of the noise.
