Gov’t introduces security changes

The Trudeau Government has introduced long-awaited security legislation after consulting with Canadians.

The bill would limit the ability of the Canadian Security Agency to disrupt terrorist plots…but would also give it the power to conduct its own  cyberattacks against foreign targets. The bill would also set up a new watchdog to bring all security services, including the military, under one embrella.

Opposition pressures gov’t on asylum seekers

The opposition used World Refugee Day yesterday to pressure the Liberals to honour a long-standing promise to overhaul the asylum system.

The New Democrats and Conservatives both urged the Trudeau Government to look at the increasing claims at the U-S border by people seeking asylum here, especially since Donald Trump’s election. About 3,000 people have been arrested since January crossing the border in order to claim asylum.
