Mounty criticizes the top boss

A colleague and friend of the three Mounties killed in Moncton has written an open letter saying he holds Commissioner Bob Paulson personally responsible for their deaths. Corporal Patrick Bouchard says he decided to post the letter on Facebook after Paulson’s testimony at the Labour Code trial last week.

Paulson said management had concerns over the possible militarization of the force with high-powered carbine rifles.  Bouchard says the RCMP should not risk officer safety over concerns about image. He went on to say Paulson showed a clear lack of leadership.

Not enough bilingual bureaucrats

The official languages commissioner says the number of senior provincial officials who are bilingual is unacceptably low in Canada’s only bilingual province.

Katherine d’Entremont says a survey of 21 francophone groups and municipalities found only four said French was always used at meetings with senior public servants. She says should be a legislated requirement for top jobs in the civil service, including legislative officer positions, three of which are vacant now.
