Solar-powered conservation area

The Nature Conservancy of Canada says it’s already seeing the benefits of installing four solar panels at the Johnson’s Mills Shorebird Reserve and Interpretive Centre near Moncton.

The panels were installed last May with the help of Fundy Solar and E-O-S Eco Energy. Conservancy spokesman Andrew Holland says the first tonne of carbon offsets has been counted and the power generated will go back through the power grid for credits by N-B Power. Holland says the change was done as a part of renovations to the centre.

Drone nearly hits Porter Airlines flight

Federal investigators are looking into a near miss involving a Porter Airlines plane near the Toronto Islands airport.

Two crew members suffered minor injuries when the plane, which was carrying 54 passengers yesterday morning, had to swerve suddenly to avoid an object believed to be a drone. The plane, on a flight from Ottawa, was just under three thousand metres when the incident occurred over Lake Ontario.
