Council wants to charge for Freedom of Information requests

Common Council wants the province to reinstate fees for Freedom of Information requests.

Councillor David Merrithew got unanimous approval for his motion to have the city lobby the province to bring back fees for requests for information.  Merrithew says while the city certainly wishes to continue to be open and forthright, the cost of retrieving information has increased steadily. So far this year, there have been 66 such requests, a third of them coming from media.

Another fracking roadblock

The Gallant Government plans to make it even harder for companies that want to frack for natural gas.

Environment Minister Serge Rousselle says disposing of hydraulic wastewater in municipal systems poses an unacceptable risk to the environment and to the systems. So amendments to the Clean Environment Act will ensure that wastewater from fracking in New Brunswick or even from other jurisdictions doesn’t end up being disposed of in Municipal wastewater systems.
