Island development concerns

The future of the island’s two regional development corporations is uncertain after the province announced it will take steps to assume total control of the organizations.

A government-commissioned review of the Charlottetown Area Development Corporation and Summerside Regional Development Corporation recommends a renewed mandate with clear goals of economic growth.

Premier Wade MacLauchlan says that  “as a result of this review, provincial officials will explore a process to have the shares of SRDC and CRDC consolidated under provincial ownership.

PEI E-gaming report

Finance Minister Allen Roach says the island has implemented all of the recommendations from the auditor general’s e-gaming report.

As well, whistleblower legislation will be introduced in the spring session of the legislature.

The government lost more than 1.5 million dollars after a plan to make P.E.I. a regulator for internet gaming collapsed in 2012.

The report identified areas of non-compliance with legislation, policies and controls.
