Crown rests case at Morningstar trial

The Crown called its final witnesses yesterday at the first degree murder trial of Devin Morningstar.

The jury was given the afternoon off as well as today. The Times and Transcript reports the trial will resume tomorrow with the defence telling the court whether it intends to call any witnesses. If not, then they will go to closing arguments.

One of the final witnesses was the man who drove the three suspects from the triplex where Baylie Wylie’s body was found.  Claude LeBlanc said Morningstar was not a bad guy…just in the wrong place at the wrong time. That prompted Wylie’s mother to storm out of the courtroom.

Construction on schedule at events centre

Construction continues to move along at the downtown events centre. The Times and Transcript reports the big red crane is being removed now that the roof trusses and bleachers are in place.

More than 100 construction people will now begin work on glass panelling and masonry work outside along with plumbing, electrical and ventilation inside.

The construction is on schedule with completion set for September 2018.
