Former executive at Halifax Pride charged with stealing from the group

A former vice-chair of Halifax Pride has been charged with stealing money from the group.

30 year old Christopher Daniel J. Scullino, who now lives in Ontario, was arrested this week and returned to Halifax. He is charged with taking $16,000 from the Halifax Pride Committee accounts and depositing it in his own account. Scullino is scheduled to appear in court today to answer to the charges.

Help for people with dry wells

The province is amending legislation to allow municipalities to create a program to pay upfront for residents to drill deeper or expanded wells. This is aimed mainly at the southwest part of the province where the drought has left hundreds of wells still dry with fears of the winter freeze coming.

The costs of drilling would then be applied to a property’s tax bill and repaid over a specific period.
