Jean-Claude Savoie has been found not guilty of criminal negligence causing death. The jury deliberated for about eight hours before acquitting the 40-year-old, who was charged in the 2013 deaths of Campbellton brothers Connor and Noah Barthe. Lawyer Les Matchim is unhappy with how the RCMP handled it, saying they put in writing that Savoie wouldn’t be charged early in the investigation.

Mi’kmaq claim control over millions of acres
The Elsipogtog First Nation is taking the province to court to exert aboriginal authority over millions of acres of Crown lands.
Chief Arren Sock says the court process is because of a lack of consultation over natural resources. He pointed out under peace and friendship treaties signed hundreds of years ago, the Mi’Kmaq never ceded control over their territory.
