Funding cuts for long term care criticized

Opposition critics are concerned about a $8.2 million cut in funding for long-term care homes.

Conservative MLA Tim Houston told a legislature committee some homes are having difficulty meeting the cuts without harming services for vulnerable Nova Scotians. The NDP’s Dave Wilson doesn’t understand why the cutbacks had to be passed on to front-line caregivers already struggling to meet needs.

Deputy Health Minister Peter Vaughan admits 103 out of 134 facilities are affected by the cutbacks.
