The lawyer for a 33-year-old mother of four who was facing deportation to Britain says his client will be allowed to stay in Canada. The Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund says Immigration Minister John McCallum intervened in the case of Fliss Cramman. The Nova Scotia woman came to Canada from Britain with her family when she was eight and only found out she is not a Canadian citizen after she was convicted of a drug trafficking charge in 2014. She was to be deported to Britain as early as December 16th.

The president of the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick is stepping down after a problem-plagued leadership convention last month. Jason Stephen served as president of the party for five years. The party elected Blaine Higgs as its leader on October 22nd, replacing former premier David Alward. The party’s provincial council will determine who will fill the president’s role until the party’s annual general meeting next spring.
