An apology from the NS Grits

Premier Stephen McNeil will meet with Mi’kmaq chiefs today to apologize.

A government legal brief in connection with the Alton gas project implied members of a First Nation band were a “conquered people.”

McNeil said he will apologize saying the brief didn’t reflect who he is or the belief of his government.

The brief said the Crown’s obligation to consult the Indian Brook band extended only to “unconquered people.”

Trudeau jets off to Africa

Prime Minister Trudeau landed in Liberia this morning on the first leg of a trip to Africa which will include the Francophonie summit in Madagascar on the weekend.

The Liberals claim that the visit highlights the government’s renewed engagement with the continent.
