Premier pushes for pipeline

After Ottawa’s approval of two pipeline projects out west last week, Premier Brian gallant says there’s still a strong need for the Energy East pipeline. Gallant says it would help eastern refineries, including Irving’s, to reduce their dependence on foreign oil, and provide a safe mode to get oil from Alberta to New Brunswick.

Ottawa is expected to appoint new panelists soon for the National Energy Board’s review of the almost $15.7 billion project.

Languages commissioner wants more money

Now the Official Languages Commissioner wants more money in her budget. Katherine d’Entremont has asked the government for more money in her budget to do her job. That’s basically what Auditor-General Kim MacPherson did as well…overspent her budget and asked for more.

Speaker Chris Collins told Brunswick News the extra spending by MacPherson showed disrespect for the legislature and cleared the way for others to do the same.  The Commissioners are independent from government…and the politicians can’t tell them how to spend their money.
