The province has appointed a new Labour Board chair. Karen Hollett has served as a roster mediator with the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, and an arbitrator with that province’s Labour Relations Agency. Her appointment is for five years, effective January 3rd.

Offices of Rentalsman, Obmudsman to get gender-neutral names
Legislation has been introduced to make the names of two provincial offices gender neutral. The Office of the Rentalsman will be the Residential Tenancies Tribunal, and the Office of the Ombudsman will become Ombud New Brunswick. Studies have shown using gender-neutral job titles promotes more participation of female candidates, and reduces stereotyping and discrimination.
