Mira River murder case

A Glace Bay man will be back in court next week to prove he has a new lawyer, according to the Cape Breton Post.

41 year old Thomas Ted Barrett told the judge this week he had arranged legal representation for his murder trial in the death of 21 year old Laura Catherine Jessome, whose body was found in a hockey bag in the Mira River in 2012.  The judge wanted confirmation and ordered them back in court Monday.

Another man charged in the case, Morgan James MacNeil; pleaded guilty to manslaughter and got seven years.

Canadian pot recommendations

A federal task force has released its recommendations on how marijuanna should be legalized.

After five months of study, it listed 80 recommendations; key among them that the age limit to buy recreational pot be 18.

It also recommends a 30 gram per person limit and four plants for those that grow their own.

It also says places selling grass should not be involved with alcohol.
